M&G Stationery

As dawn light fractures through the glass curtain wall, this steel corridor suspended in clouds awakens. 20,000 m³ of ambition is folded into Rafael Viñoly’s silver curves—the "world’s longest urban industrial gallery", and the nest where M&G Stationery leans into the light.

When the world’s largest stationery manufacturer rooted its HQ here, designers dipped their pen nibs into morning light. The concept "Glorious thriving along with daylight" sprouted in sketches: ceiling cracks leaked light like ink stains, conference tables became uncut paper rolls, and the old tree in the atrium—its steel skeleton exposed—measured sun shadows with twisted branches.

They say this building resembles a binder pulled out by God. But M&G hid a more rebellious answer here: elevator shafts cast ruler-straight shadows, fire escapes spiral like pencil shavings, and those shimmering aluminum panels? Magnified pencil ferrules—at dusk, the entire building melts into a fountain pen writing with sunlight.

On inauguration day, designers dropped a stack of A4 papers from the rooftop. They tumbled into doves, while the building’s shadow cast a damp sentence on them: "Morning light need not be chased—it is the light itself."
